Thekkady is home to the popular Periyar Wildlife sanctuary and the Periyar National park both of which are located on the banks of the Periyar Lake which was formed by the Mullaperiyar dam built on the Periyar river.
Attractions around the destination include the spice plantations, coffee plantations and the beautiful cascades and waterfalls of Chellar Kovil and the Mangala Devi temple, which is situated at the height of 1337 metres above sea level, is called for its panoramic vistas of the surrounding region and the mountains of the Eastern Ghats in the distance.
